Excavation Foreman

Position Summary

The Excavation Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating excavation crews, equipment, and site activities to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to project plans and specifications. This role oversees daily field operations, maintains productivity, and ensures compliance with safety regulations and company standards.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Supervise and direct excavation crew members on job sites.
  • Coordinate daily excavation activities including grading, trenching, site preparation, and utility installation.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and site plans.
  • Plan and schedule work to meet project timelines and productivity goals.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of excavation equipment and tools.
  • Emphasize the safe use of tools, machinery, and equipment while providing training on safety gear and procedures.
  • Identify potential hazards and enforce safe work practices on site.
  • Coordinate with Construction Manager, subcontractors, and inspectors.
  • Perform site layout and verify grades using measuring tools, lasers, or other equipment.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members.
  • Report project and site status to Construction
  • Manager daily. Complete and submit all paperwork to the Project Manager including receipts, checklists, and work order notes. Execute construction tasks alongside the crew when necessary.
  • Take daily job site photos and maintain accurate records of work performed. Ensure the job site is clean, safe, and organized at all times.
  • Maintain the organization of the tool trailer and work truck. Ensure the tool trailer is stocked with needed tools, fasteners, blades, batteries, etc.
  • Ensure the project stays on schedule by effectively prioritizing and adjusting tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in excavation and site work.
  • Experience operating and overseeing heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, and skid steers.
  • Strong knowledge of excavation methods, grading, trenching, and underground utilities.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans, drawings, blueprints, and grade stakes. Skills needed for this position include managerial, communication, self-motivation, organization, collaboration, critical thinking, willingness to learn, and problem solving.
  • Previous supervisory or crew leader experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license including commercial driver’s license (CDL) required.

Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work on uneven terrain and active construction sites.

Position Type: Fulltime; salaried. Hours: minimum of 45 hours per week (Monday – Friday).

Job Summary

The Drafter/Estimator supports the design and planning phase of construction projects by developing construction-ready plans, preparing project estimates, and coordinating documentation. This role collaborates closely with the Project Designer to develop conceptual designs and convert them into detailed construction plans while ensuring accuracy, code compliance, and feasibility.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Collaborate with the Project Designer to develop conceptual designs and convert them into construction-ready plans.
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate project conditions and ensure design feasibility.
  • Revise designs and plans as needed to reflect project changes and client feedback.
  • Review construction plans and specifications for quality and compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Document project construction materials in the product catalog.
  • Ensure all products identified in the product catalog are included in the estimate.
  • Help ensure that the project plan is accurate.
  • Draft estimates.
  • Write contracts.
  • Maintain organized and accurate project documentation, including plans, revisions and approvals.
  • Complete all tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in construction drafting and estimating.
  • Proficiency with Chief Architect design and drafting software.
  • Knowledge of building codes, permitting requirements, and construction methods.
  • Skills needed for this position include self-motivation, problem solving, collaboration, organization, effective communication, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  • Must have the ability to effectively manage time, multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
