How We Built a Custom Hidden Ceiling TV Lift

At QnC Construction, we love a good challenge…especially when creativity and engineering come together to make something that doesn’t exist yet. If you’ve ever tried to find a truly hidden TV solution for a high-end custom build home, you already know the problem: the off-the-shelf options just don’t cut it. One of our custom design builds in Central Pennsylvania is a perfect example of what’s possible when you build the solution yourself.

How Do You Hide a TV Without Ruining the Ceiling?

When homeowners want a clean, modern space, one question often comes up: how do you add a TV without sacrificing design?

Many homeowners researching hidden TV mounts or ceiling TV lifts assume there’s a ready-made solution for every scenario. Sure, recessed TV mounts exist on the market, but none of them fit the vision of this custom home where every detail mattered.

The goal? To make it look as though nothing was there at all.

The constraint? We had just nine inches of space to fit a motor, actuator, levers, springs, and every moving part required to pull a platform and TV smoothly into the ceiling.

Nine Inches to Work With

This project required a blend of creativity and precision engineering to achieve clean lines and intentional design. Thanks to the endless availability of information and parts online, we researched, sourced, and customized exactly what we needed. From there, we planned every wire and power connection in advance and hid them within the steel framework for a clean finish.

Getting the Framing Right

Before we could install the mechanism, we had to nail the framing exactly.

First, our team used LVL (laminated veneer lumber) beams to:

  • Create a strong, stable opening
  • Support the weight and movement of the system
  • Ensure long-term durability

This step was critical. Without precise framing, the system wouldn’t function or align properly.

Engineering Every Millimeter

From calculating pivot points and arm lengths to determining pounds of pressure per inch for the actuators, every measurement mattered. Next, we strategically added springs to assist with lift and engineered each component to move in perfect balance. We designed each component to work together seamlessly, so when the TV lowers or retracts, the movement feels effortless and controlled.

The Final Result: No Visible Hardware or Compromises

The end result is a fully integrated ceiling TV lift system that works as seamlessly as it looks.

Ultimately, we engineered a custom solution that:

  • Conceals the TV entirely when not in use
  • Operates smoothly and reliably with controlled, balanced movement
  • Maintains a clean, high-end aesthetic with no visible hardware

When the system is closed, there’s no indication that a TV is even there. You won’t find this type of recessed ceiling TV system in off-the-shelf products, and it reflects what’s possible when custom design and craftsmanship come together.

Why Custom Solutions Matter in Home Design

Projects like this highlight an important truth: custom homes often require custom solutions. At QnC Construction, we approach each project with the mindset that if it doesn’t exist, we can build it. By combining engineering, creativity, and hands-on experience, we’re able to bring ideas to life that go beyond standard construction.
